Auditors need to understand why a decision was made, not just what decision was made. Traditional automation — especially AI-based systems — often produces outcomes without documenting the specific rules applied, the inputs considered, or the reasoning chain. When an auditor asks "why was this expense approved?" and your answer is "the model said so," you've lost control of the narrative. Axiom Governance captures every decision with its complete context, making the reasoning transparent and defensible.

Every decision processed by Axiom generates a Decision Evidence Bundle containing: the exact policy version applied (with its effective date), all input facts and source evidence (documents, data points), the computed outcome, a human-readable explanation of the reasoning, and a cryptographic integrity hash. This bundle is immutable — any tampering would invalidate the hash — creating a verifiable record that auditors can trust.

Deterministic Replay means you can take any historical decision, feed in the same inputs with the same policy version, and get the exact same outcome. This isn't just theoretical — it's a core guarantee of the system. For auditors, this means independent verification is possible. For compliance, it means you can prove that your automation behaves consistently and predictably. For your team, it means debugging and understanding past decisions is straightforward.

Axiom uses an adapter-based integration model. Your ERP remains the system of record for financial data — we don't replace it or duplicate its controls. Instead, Axiom sits alongside your ERP, receiving transaction data and returning decisions with full evidence bundles. Pre-built adapters are available for common ERPs, and custom adapters can be developed for specialized systems. The integration is read-heavy on the input side and write-light on the output side.

Policy changes are handled through versioning with effective dates. When you update a policy, the new version takes effect from a specified date forward, while historical decisions retain their association with the policy version that was active when they were made. This means you can always replay a historical decision using the exact rules that were in effect at that time — even if those rules have since changed.

Axiom includes built-in PII redaction capabilities. Sensitive data can be automatically identified and redacted from Decision Evidence Bundles while preserving the integrity of the audit trail. The original data is processed for decision-making, but the stored evidence contains only the redacted version. When evidence is incomplete or a case doesn't match policy rules cleanly, Axiom routes the decision for human review. The evidence bundle still gets created — documenting what was known, what was missing, and why the case was escalated. Your team makes the final call, and the bundle captures that human decision alongside the system's assessment.
